How to Fix a Tunneling Candle

If your candle begins to tunnel (burning down the center while leaving wax around the edges) or the wick becomes buried in wax, don't worry—it's easy to fix!

For a Buried Wick:

  • Extinguish the flame and allow the candle to cool slightly.
  • Carefully pour off a small amount of melted wax or use a paper towel to absorb excess wax around the wick.
  • Relight the wick and allow the candle to burn long enough for the wax pool to reach the edges of the container.

For Candle Tunneling:

  • Extinguish the candle and let it cool completely.
  • Wrap a strip of aluminum foil around the top of the candle, leaving an opening in the center above the flame.
  • Relight the candle and burn for 1–3 hours. The trapped heat will help melt the wax around the edges and create an even melt pool.
  • Remove the foil carefully once the wax has melted evenly.

Prevention Tip: Always allow your candle to burn until the melted wax reaches the edges of the container during each burn. This helps prevent tunneling and ensures the best fragrance throw and longest candle life.
